Wooden, Hinged Pattens - $70.00
Just what you need on a wet Pennsic morning. These are based on numbers 131 and 135 from "Shoes and Pattens" (ISBN 0-11-290443-2). They are now made of 5/4 poplar. 14th century. All footwear is made in America in my shop.
This seems as good a place as any to include my brief instructions to those who haven't worn wooden pattens before. When new, they're slick so shorten your stride a bit until you're comfortable. Wet grass will always be slick and downhill even more so. Avoid gravel, walk along side the road. Modern surfaces like concrete and asphalt will be slick even with worn in or scuffed pattens so slow down. When walking on gravel, the pointy rocks risk splitting the pattens. Walk a little slower and with a shorter stride at first and soon enough, you'll forget they'tre there!
